A WhatsApp chatbot that teaches complex coding concepts using puzzles and stories to students from grades 7 to 10

Objective

The chatbot is focussed on building interest, curiosity and some foundational knowledge and skills in students around computational thinking and coding. It is an initial touchpoint that takes learners through a series of short learning experiences over 5 weeks. Students who show further interest after this experience are then supported in their coding journeys through workshops and counseling.

My role

Me and Samarth collaborated closely throughout all the stages of the project, right from on ground research, sense making, defining the learning objectives, breaking down complex coding topics like decomposition and sequencing into bite sized learning activities and the world building of the chatbot narrative and theme. Once we defined the content structure and flow for each week, I would flesh out the story, the messages and the activities. We used the glific chatbot creation interface almost like a game engine to create puzzles which can be solved by text inputs on whatsapp
